Here is one of my favorite cakes...the hedgehog cake.
It is basically a chocolate cake with piped icing to add the effect of hegehog bristles.
A tip for piping is to run the piping bag under warmish water if you have frozen it or the icing will block the nozzle and it wont be very good. If you have made a mistake scoop up the icing and try again, make sure your icing is not to liquidy or it will fail.
Start off by making the cake, I recommend the BBC website as it has a helpful video and is easy to make. http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/easy_chocolate_cake_31070
Then add on your icing (which you make while cooking the cake) and use a icing knife to spread it evenly out and decorate. You can stop here but if you want to carry on make some more icing with a little more icing sugar and pipe it (using a piping bag) all around the cake.
To finish off I placed some Maltesers on top.... voila! hedgehog cake.
